2019 SHQS Theme Announced

“Cabins & Cottages” is the theme for the 2019 Sackets Harbor Quilt Show. We’ll feature classic Log Cabin quilts and variations, as well as explore images of cottages and lakeshore themes.

Size: No smaller than 24″ x 24″ and no larger than 60″ x 72″

Hanging Sleeve and Label: Each quilt must have a 4-inch wide hanging sleeve on the backside of the top, and be clearly labeled with the name of the quilt and the quilter.

Style: Can be machine or hand quilted; can be appliquéd, pieced, or whole cloth.


New at the Quilt Show: Redwork Program with Louise Tiemann

TechyRedwork.jpgLouise Tiemann joined the Sackets Harbor Quilt Show for a Sunday afternoon program and talk about Redwork: Ornamental Embroidery. Louise shared an exhibit of patterns, ephemera, tools, threads, fancy work and quilts with us, including this lovely checkerboard-bordered redwork quilt by Margaret Techy.  This comprehensive redwork exhibit was open all day Sunday, with Louise’s informative, engaging program at 2:00 Sunday afternoon at the Sackets Harbor Ballroom. 2018 SHQS Feature Artist: Emelie Cuppernell

The Sackets Harbor Quilt Show welcomes North Country quilter Emelie Cuppernell as our 2018 Quilt Artist. Fifteen of Emelie’s quilts, both full size and miniature, will be exhibited in a retrospective look at her handiwork. Shown left is a detail from one of Emelie’s nature-inspired, dimensional quilts “Snowy Owl.” Emilie will give a talk on her art, the inspirations, and a long view of more than three decades of quilting and textile art.

Star Works Collection: An exhibit from the Thousand Island Art Center: Home of the Handweaving Museum. Harriet Burris will be on hand at the Sackets Harbor Quilt Show to share a selection of vintage coverlet weaving samples from the museum’s collection, and to give us a demo of the art of handweaving. Join us as we follow the Red Thread through 19th Century American textiles, woven here in Northern New York.


TAUNY Program at Quilt Show: Warmth, Remembrance and Art

Sackets Harbor Quilt Show announces a TAUNY Program and Exhibit at the show: Selections from the Northern New York Quilt Project
Traditional Arts in Upstate New York’s Executive Director and folklorist Jill Breit spent 14 months on the road with historian Hallie Bond to document quilts old and new in New York’s North Country. The result of this documentary work was shared in TAUNY’s 2016 exhibit, “Warmth, Remembrance, and Art: 200 Years of Quilts and Comforters in Northern New York.
The Sackets Harbor Quilt Show welcomes TAUNY’s Jill Breit to the Saturday program schedule at the Quilt Show to share examples of what she and Hallie found in the North Country. North Country quilts on view as well as TAUNY exhibit materials and program talk with Jill.
